Estrogen Dominance

What causes Estrogen Dominance?

There are many things that cause estrogen to override our other hormones. Resulting in symptoms like weight gain, PMS, hot flashes, acne and mood swings. To reduce this estrogen dominance we need to be able to control our immediate environmental surroundings, mental and physical stress and the things we’re putting in our bodies.

Environment

No matter how hard we try, we all go out into the world everyday and breathe in environmental pollutants and chemicals. For the most part, we can’t control this. What you can control is the products you use on your body and around your household. Pay attention to the ingredients in your beauty products and cleaning supplies. Check out some of the products I recommend and work to clean up your immediate environment.

Stress

When the body is under a lot of stress it produces a bunch of cortisol, which begins to take place of progesterone production. Progesterone and estrogen should be at even playing fields most of the time and when estrogen is higher, WAH LAH! we have estrogen dominance. So? Find a stress-reducing activity that helps you produce your happy hormones.

  • Exercise

  • Meditation

  • Yoga

  • Dance

  • Journal

  • Breathe

  • Massage/Acupuncture

Food & Gut

The liver is in charge of packing up estrogen and shipping it out of the body (pooping). If the liver or the gut is not being properly supported with food/supplements, excess estrogen is produced because the liver has a hard time packaging it and again…we have estrogen dominance.

Help support your liver and your hormones with foods like:

  • Mushrooms

  • Berries

  • Avocados

  • Cruciferous veggies (kale, broccoli, cabbage)

  • Beets

  • Dark chocolate

  • Flax seeds

  • High quality proteins (grass-fed beef, eggs, hemp seeds).
